LoGOz - Masons Blyth review / AcoustiCalendar Song #30 / Under The Dome - Whitley Bay!

Friday night July 24th saw us back at The Masons in Blyth following our successful first time there way back at the arse end of 2014. November to be precise. So here we were again in familiar Blyth territory! After an edgy few days and a few squeaky bums in LoGOz camp following a few technological and medical mishaps, back on track for this headline gig. Mark from Nemix stepped into supply the PA and sound for the evening, and having worked with these guys in the past we knew we were in safe hands. This was also gonna be another double setter for me this evening by opening the night with an AcoustiCalendar set. A healthy crowd had settled in before I took to the stage around 9:10pm. This was most pleasing as we were unfortunately in unexpected direct competition with The Woodhorn Lane Music Festival in Ashington, which we actually wouldn't have minded having a slot on ourselves...but that's another story!

I kicked off my solo set with my usual opener THE BALLAD OF THE DiSENCHANTED and played a 10 strong song set! I dedicated PAiNT THE TOWN RED to Manager Clemmy, missing in action, as its his favourite track!  I also debuted that weeks AcoustiCalendar Song #29 BORN iN THE U.K. which went down great, before finishing with OLD PUNKS NEVER DiE with a crescendo medley of HOOKY STREET / THATS LiViNG ALRiGHT & WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE LiKELY LADS! Another solo gig in the locker and done great for my confidence, so thank you everyone for really listening on Friday, it means a lot cheers!

Then, after a quick break it was time to strap on Mr V and kick LoGOz back into full electric action!!! Blasting straight into LONG TiME DEAD and UNEASY STREET we set the pace for a schizo-frantic hectic hour of our own brand of punk

rock n roll!  We were also very happy to debut brand new song ANTi-SOCiAL MEDiA which went down a storm! I expect this to be a firm future Live favourite, with its quirky riff it twists and turns as the melody hooks you in and spits out lyrics of the state of our modern world and centre of our universe that is, social media!!! With MEXiCOLA ending the night on a high and cries of more, Blyth had had their whack! A great night gig yet again and big thanks to everyone who came down to support us it was a great turn out, much appreciated! Nothing like a manic Monday to kick the week back into action! First of all I had the job of recording my New AcoustiCalendar Song #30 WONDER YEARS. Nothing to do with the sentimental retrospective classic American TV Show at all! Although I am a fan of the said show :) But this song purely is about the 'wonder' of all those years that have passed! Cos I wonder where the hell they've gone! Time just goes nowhere these days, but back then you thought you had forever! But who says you have to grow old? Stay young at heart. Then onto Monday evening where Paul and I had been asked to perform a mini acoustic slot Under The Dome at Whitely Bay. This is part of the 17 days of Creative Mayhem from 18th July - 2nd August. So tonight in the impressive inflatable Dome it was New Wave with Newman Show in front of a Live audience! As we rolled up to the Dome bang on 6:30pm there was a lot of busying on but not much happening and we weren't quite sure exactly what was going on! The weather outside was chucking it down and it had the possibilities of being a wash out! But slowly the place started to fill up as people paid their entrance fee and we were greeted by the jovial Mr Newman himself with sidekick Punky Paul, and were told we were 4th act on. Cool. Just time for a quick song run through with sound guy Kurt all the way from Los Angeles. Before long there were lots of familiar faces as Paul and me mingled with the crowd including Rob from Spitfire Bullets and Tony, Karen and Micky from Collision. As Keith Newman introduced the show and kicked off with my jingle (cheers mate) the opening track blasted in with Public Image by PiL. Class. Good start. After a few more tunes and banter it was time for some Live action and first up was a guy I'd hadn't come across before called Lee McDade. An admittedly Johnny Cash American country punk soul feel with gritty Northern lyrics I really enjoyed the 3 song set and look forward to seeing him again. Next up was Angela Carrington who opened up The Cluny gig we played with Duncan Reid & The Big Heads last year. A very impressive haunting rendition of Visage's 'Fade to Grey' was followed by 'Welcome to Paradise' by Green Day. One extreme to the other, but the most extreme Mr Kurts impromptu bongo playing during 'Paradise'. Somewhat offbeat and off the wall to say the least. He definitely added something new to the song, but whether it improved it is up for debate haha! Well done Angela though :)

In between acts there was time for some amusing punk karaoke, and lo and behold it was only our new acquaintance Kurt coherent, who did the most crazy version of 'New Rose' by The Damned you'll ever hear! He came in singing way too early off cue but bizarrely kinda kept it up somehow before a tirade of angst ridden screams at the end! He also shouted "piss off" at one point haha! Hilariously confusing and bonkers stuff but entertaining nonetheless! Good on ya our American buddy! Then it was the turn of The 45's a band I've known well in various guises over the years including the Star Souls and 20,000 Rockets. Main man Kev was in fine form as ever with their tongue in cheek quirk driven punk acoustica. Then our time had arrived so Paul and me made our way to side of the stage to get in the zone! Keith gave us a quick intro and we launched straight into 'No Win Situation' complete with dodgy PA Sound lead crackles mid song, which, although slightly annoyed us, it wasn't enough to put us off our stride! Once that was sorted we performed our first acoustic Live version of 'Disgraceland ' which judging by the reaction definitely hit the spot! We closed our mini set with 'Mexicola' to a great reception from the now full house! We stuck around to watch AntMusic with some brilliantly stripped down renditions of some of my favourite Adam & the Ants songs! A great end to a brilliant event! Big thanks to Mr Keith Newman and the team for putting this together and pulling it off with aplomb! We were really pleased to be a part of this. Big thanks again to everyone who came down to support us and all the other acts!

Also just to let you all know of some cool gig news just in! We have been invited to play a fringe gig at Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool on Friday August 7th. We will be playing at Gillespies and will be onstage at 7:30pm. Can't wait for this one!!!

LoGOz - Blyth Fair review / Solo Tavern review / AcoustiCalendar Song #29

Saturday July 18th saw us return to Live action as a band at the Blyth Fair for our 4:15pm slot. As we rolled into Blyth slightly behind schedule we were surprised to find the impressive stage not quite where we expected it to be! But hey, lets not quibble, this is punk rock boys and girls! As we quickly loaded the gear onto the stage we were met with bemused looks from onstage organisers etc who were less than helpful as we looked in vain for a familiar face or soundman of sort! Main promoter Vince had other business to attend to so was missing in action! So just as we'd given up hope of any professional help, I spied Mr Phil Insangel on the horizon returning from his liquid lunch break with trustee sidekick Paul 'Sub' in tow! Good times. These guys have nailed LoGOz sound many a time so it was reassuring to know we were in safe hands. Cos outdoor gigs can be tricky customers when it comes to sound. Anyway just as we were ready for blast off, Mr. Compare and DJ from local radio station NE1 FM then informed us we were Live on the radio, so please do not swear! Fuckin' hell man haha! A brief Live on air interview followed with some deep soul searching investigative journalistic quezzies really throwing us off kilter..."What kind of guitar is that?....Why are you called LoGOz?..."How do you know these guys?"....Erm cos I'm in a band with them...was Harrys humorously deadpan reply! Then a quick introduction from local Comedian Ken Brady who announced us as "A classic rock power trio, like Cream or The Jam, or something else you'd have for your tea". LoGOz on toast it is then!!! So on with the show! When we first arrived the stage area was like a ghost town, so thankfully as we revved up with LONG TIME DEAD a small crowd had gathered and were enjoying there afternoon dose of punk pop rock n roll! It was great to be playing Live again after a two week break so we were happy with our 35 minute performance, as we were as tight as ever! Even the unexpected sonic explosive interference mid song during DEAD OR LIVING IN AMERICA didn't put us off haha! I must admit we were slightly disappointed with the turn out, but a big thanks to those who came down to support us! Cheers to Vince and of course to Phil and Sub, and our new friends at NE1 FM. Last and least, no thanks to the arrogant tosser who chucked a coin at the stage during our set. Tit. All in all a good fun afternoon of giggage followed by a few well deserved beers and shameless merch flogging :) Cheerz!

Onto Sunday and it was Solo time again with a set at The Tavern in Blyth again. My set time was 6:45pm so arriving a good 30 minutes before stage time gave me enough rope to play with! The lads from ALL OUT ATTACK were just finishing soundcheck as we got there so everything was on schedule. This was the debut gig for my new Acoustic geetar, the Tim Armstrong signature Fender Hellcat! MEEEEOWWW!!! This little fella has a completely different tone to my trustee Yamaha so it kinda felt a little alien at first! I opened up with THE BALLAD OF THE DiSENCHANTED and the brilliant reception eased those solo nerves a little! The beauty of these gigs is that there's kinda no strict set rules, so I can throw in anything depending on my mood or vibe, which changes with alarming regularity! Hence, me playing the very personal BROKEN HEART STRiNGS which was the first time I'd played this at a gig. I also threw in JUBiLEEZER as the token LoGOz track. I closed the set with OLD PUNKS NEVER DiE with my usual ONLY FOOLS & HORSES outtro but this time the finale was WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE LIKELY LADS theme, which went down great! Another nod to one of my fave TV shows of yesteryear! Again another successful solo gig under my belt, building that confidence each time! Thanks again to everyone who came down it was a cracking turn out! Cheers to Vince for putting me on and also the lads from ALL OUT ATTACK who played a blinder with their anthemic melodic punk rockathons!!!

Here we are again on Monday already!! AcoustiCalendar Song #29 this week is BORN iN THE U.K. Nothing to do with the Boss Mr Bruce Springsteen at all. Just a pure nod to the collective home land I was born into.  The song takes a brief journey through snippets of my life as seen through my very own eyes.  2 minutes 45 seconds of working class realism. AcoustiCalendar Song #28 MiSFiT KiD - LoGOz News

Another LoGOz gig free weekend passes us by although not short of band action! More on that in a minute, but first of all its back to business for our standard manic Monday, and that means AcoustiCalendar new track time! This week sees us at Song #28 with MiSFiT KiD. When growing up as a kid as I'm sure in most schools back in the day, there was always the kid who for some reason, just didn't quite fit in! Sometimes these poor mites were out of Towners and it wasn't unusual for them to be moved school time and time again, whether it be for their Parents work or whatever! But I came across this a few times in my school days where a 'New Starter' would be the easy target for the bullies who would take the piss out of their accent, clothes, hair, you name it, any reason to make sure they didnt fit in! And that was just the teachers!! I'm joking of course ;) But seriously I just remember seeing this first hand at least more than twice, and those memories always stuck with me! Little did I know years later they would provide vital subject matter to my self enduring project challenge! Don't get me wrong it wasn't all bad and some of these kids were accepted too, but it was always the ones who didn't that you remember the most! So as I mentioned with another gig free weekend for the band it gave us a chance to regroup on Sunday with a LoGOz rehearsal at Pulse Music Studios in Blyth, superbly run by Digits chatterbox mainman and all round top guy Chris Bradley and his good lady Gina. We thought it was about time to work on a new song. So work on a new song we did indeed. I'm pleased to say by the end of the session we had nailed brand new track ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA, and if we do say so ourselves it was sounding pretty mega! Its a quirky rifftastic schizo singalong exploring the dangers and delights of our online existence in this digital age! We can't wait to unleash this baby at a Live Show very soon :)

After a gig free LoGOz weekend that was filled with celebrating my Brothers milestone 40th Birthday, Monday arrived quicker than expected! With empty pockets, a dry mouth and a bad head to boot, it was time to get motoring with AcoustiCalendar Song #27  KEEP iT CLOSE.  

This  little fella clocks in at 2 minutes 20 seconds and is really a response to those who seem to think we shouldnt hold onto things! Whether it be a memory, a hope, a dream, a lost cause, whatever! I'm just saying sometimes you dont have to let go! Keep going! Dont give up. Hold on. Hang on in there. Its quite positive in a melancholic way. This song is also the first outing for my brand spank new Fender Hellcat Tim Armstrong signature guitar! It really is a beaut to play and it sounds amazing! The next day Sunday 19th I have a solo gig at The Tavern again in BlytH. This time support comes from the anthemic punkathonesque ALL OUT ATTACK. This will be FREE Entry so wind your weekend down with some Anarcoustic vibes lads and lasses! 

The following Friday 24th LoGOz are at The Masons in Blyth. This will be a return headline gig after our successful gig there late last year. This time I will be opening the night with a 30 minute AcoustiCalendar set. The night kicks off 8:30pm and again is FREE Entry! We round off our July on Monday 27th with the Under The Dome Event in Whitley Bay. Its a Live New Wave with Newman Show for Radio Northumberland. This will feature Pauline Murray from Penetration, as well as Acoustic sets from Angela Carrington, the 45s and Adam and the Ants tribute band ANTMUSIC. We will also be playing Live stripped down LoGOz tracks as well as being interviewed by Mr Newman himself. Tickets for the show are £5 and are available from www.under-the-dome.org

Logoz - Blyth / Berwick / Ashington Gig Reviews

We kicked off our long weekend of gigs with a return to The Tavern in Blyth on Thursday night. Having played here in April for Tony Collision's 50th Birthday bash and me playing a Solo acoustic set just a few weeks ago we were in familiar territory. After a cheeky band rehearsal earlier just to polish up a few older tracks we hadn't played in a while, we were more than happy to blow the cobwebs off the likes of SKELETONS, LiTTLE O.C.D. and POiSONADE for this weekends gigs! Opening up tonight's gig was A DAY IN HELSiNKi, who we remember playing with back in September last year at The Lord Clyde in Byker. With their alternative indie groove and some heart wrenching vocals, the band opened up well as we were itching to make a noise, although under instruction not to play too loud???!!!??!!! The weather was our enemy tonight with the pissing rain maybe putting a few folk off making the trip down! A small hardcore following were still gonna get a 100% full on committed LoGOz show that's for sure! It was cool to get MONKEY BUSiNESS back in the set along with KARAMAGEDDON as well as the aforementioned 3 as we played for a good hours blast! The sound was spot on so thanks to Vince Race for that. Special mention again to all who braved the rain and came along, much appreciated!

Friday saw us heading back up to The Barrels in Berwick for our third gig there. This venue is one of the most intimate places we'll ever play, and tonight was very initmate! Lets just say it was a disappointing turn out, but thank you so much to those who made the journey to support us! I kicked the night off with a 10 strong song set of my AcoustiCalendar tracks, kicking off with THE BALLAD OF THE DiSENCHANTED and debuting WEEKEND OFFENDER and TATTOOS AND DRiNKiNG it was a great experience supporting my own band. I look forward to doing this again very soon :) Again as a band we played like our lives depended on it and delivered a solid 60 minutes of our original punk rock n roll!!! Shame for the excitable post student gig goers who came in to see us just as we had finished!!! Also l must give a shout out to the broad Scottish Rod Stewart lookalike who I had some amusing Auf Wiedereshen Pet/ Jimmy Nail banter with afterwards! Also a big thanks to owner Jaki for booking us and of course again to the crew who came up!

Sunday saw us back in our Hometown of Ashington for the Street Fayre. This is the third year running we've been asked to play, so that can only be a good thing right? After an early morning dash to Newcastle to sort my new Acoustic Guitar I felt like I was pushing time heading back to get sorted for the gig! Those who are interested I've just purchased a brand new Fender Hellcat Tim Armstrong (Rancid) Model. Its a beauty and has an amazing tone, so I cant wait to get playing with this little baby! Anyway, the weather again was threatening to gatecrash the party with rain forecast right on our set time of 1pm. As we got to Station Road we could hear our good friend and studio engineer Mr Ally Lee fronting his Kingsize Voodoo Traveller band! Giving LoGOz plenty of plugs from the stage and getting the crowd to chant " Oh Oh Oh Mexicola" we were more than ready to hit the stage! This is always a tricky gig for me. Playing open air on the main street of my hometown where so many familiar faces stop, stare, smile, wave, clap, shout, sing etc its a total mixed bag of emotions but one I/we always thoroughly enjoy! Just as we were soundchecking the clouds broke and the rain came down haha typical!! At one point there was more than enough of the wet stuff on the electrical stage equipment for it to be quite dangerous! Thankfully the Gods came back on our side and the rain stopped and the sun shone down on us :) A great crowd had gathered to watch us again, and although we werent 100% convinced with the outdoor sound, sometimes you gotta just put that to one side and focus on delivering the songs the best way we can! And we indeed did just that! We were having way too much fun to realise we were slightly over running! So JOiE DE ViVRE ended up being our finale! There was too much of a great atmosphere and repsonse from the crowd for us to even think about complaining, so we said our farewells leaving folk wanting more!!! A great end to what was an interesting weekend of gigs for the band. But again one we feel was still important and relelvant to the whole LoGOz rollercoaster ride! Thank you to our family and friends and the people of Ashington for a great turn out and last but not least Mike 'I'm a man of my word' Slaughter for booking us again. Top man.

LoGOz Gigs this weekend - Blyth / Berwick / Ashington

Just to let you all know of some LoGOz gig activity this weekend lads and lasses! Our weekend starts early again on Thursday with a return to The Tavern in Blyth. This cool intimate venue has only recently started showcasing bands, as I played a solo acoustic show there a few weeks ago on the first night opening for The ALMIGHTY UPRISERS. I had a cracking time and more happy to be invited back by Vince Race for LoGOz to headline this one with A DAY IN HELSINKI kicking things off at around 9pm. This is FREE Entry so come along and make a cracking start to your weekend!

Friday night then sees us back up to Berwick at the world famous Barrels Ale House. This has a great little downstairs Live Cellar room which has a cool vibe, which we've enjoyed twice before! So we cant wait to complete the hat-trick of gigs, with this also being Harry's debut show here! Also for the first time I will be supporting LoGOz, by kicking off the night with a 100% solo Acoustic set to warm your little punk rock souls! I will be playing tracks from my New AcoustiCalendar 13.1 CD as well as some recent songs from the project never before played Live! Then after that of course we will be ripping it up full band style causing sonic chaos and disorder on the Border!!! Again this gig is FREE Entry so you could do a lot better than watch the latest Big Brother Eviction Show and blast through to Berwick and enjoy a cracking evening of Solo / LoGOz original Anarcoustic / Punk Rock n Roll!!!

Saturday gives us a chance to give our voices and arms a rest before Sunday as we play the Ashington Town Fayre on Station Road for the third year running! We're looking forward to punkin' up the sabbath with local friends, families, fans, associates, exes, comrades, colleagues, children, animals and enemies!!! This year we're kicking off the Live entertainment off at 1pm. So either have your Sunday dinners early folks or grab a heart attack in a bun from one of the many fine fast food vans scattered amongst our locality! Bring the kids too as well as ya grannies, its gonna be a blast! Hope to see lots of you there :)

LoGOz - Teams Club Gateshead Review / AcoustiCalendar Song #25 DEAD FAMOUS

Last Friday saw LoGOz return to The Teams Club in Gateshead. We were kicking off an all punk rock Bill with THE LAST RESORT, VICE SQUAD, EAST END BADOES & NO THRILLS. After some annoying peak time traffic on the outskirts of Newcastle we hit the Teams Club around 5:30pm in good time for the scheduled soundcheck. Plenty of activity going in inside as we reacquainted ourselves with genial host and promoter extraordinaire Mr Stief-a-Billy. After a slight mix up regarding running orders and soundchecks etc, before we knew it we were loading our gear onstage and ready to warm up! After some uncomfortable electric shock treatment the last time we played here, I was pleased to be informed of a new inhouse PA had been installed with anti electrocution Mics too :) Even in an empty room the sound was big and ballsy, and thankfully little help was needed from our unfriendly Mr Soundman at the desk! As the punks and skinheads started bustling through the doors there was a healthy crowd gathering considering it was still only 7:20pm as we hit the stage! We blasted straight into usual set opener LONG TiME DEAD and played with the kind of intensity of a band with a point to prove! Maybe the slight disappointment of the dodgy sound and electric shocks last time round, gave us that extra focus this time! But we played a blinder if we do say so ourselves! I even strained my voice a little too much towards the end with the sheer ferocity and passion! We really meant it tonight and the crowd sensed that. Skinned heads nodded and docs tapped to every song as we closed the 35 minutes with our nostalgic manthem MEXiCOLA. During our set Clemmy was snapping away amidst keeping an eagle ear on the sound as well as conversing with LAST RESORT mainman Roi Pearce who was very complimentary of our stuff! 

Next on and pretty much within minutes of us exiting the stage Cumbria's NO THRILLS were up. Another swift change and it was time for the EAST END BADOES in their Friday night casual best to get the place jumping! Top stuff with the highlight being their very own London punk lullaby FOREVER PROUD. Mainman Terry actually came straight off stage and made a beeline for us to say how much he loved our set tonight! Top geezer!

Then we had the evergreen ageless punk princess Beki Bondage and her VICE SQUAD. The band gave their  adoring fans what they wanted including  the classic PUNK ROCK RADIO, LATEX LOVE & ROCK N ROLL MASSACRE.

Then it was the turn of headliners the LAST RESORT fresh from their South American jaunt and playing one of their rare outside of London gigs! The band delivered a solid in yer face performance with mainman Roi the boy being on top form! Fists were raised and boots were stomped especially to the rousing NEVER GET A JOB. This isnt just a punk rock show its a way of life! Indeed :) Another great night and gig we're proud to be involved in. Big thanks to Stief for putting us  on and doing a great job bringing us all together! New friends and fans were made yet again as we headed out of Gateshead with rasping throats and another sense of pride. Cheers to everyone who came down, and shame on the twats that nicked gear from LAST RESORTS merchandise stall. Oi Oi Oi!

Another Monday rolls around again and here we are on Song #25 of my AcoustiCalendar Project, almost halfway there! This weeks track is called DEAD FAMOUS. This one got me thinking about where I was or when I remember hearing about the deaths of Musical icons in my lifetime! Again I could go on forever but I kinda picked the ones that to me had the most effect on myself as well as the media, culture and the music world itself.
