LoGOz - Georgian Theatre / The Roxbury / The Doll / Carlos Farewell / New AcoustiCalendar Song #9 / Koast Radio

Our busy weekend kicked off with our first ever gig in Stockton, at The Georgian Theatre, on Friday night. The 70 minute journey wasn’t a problem but the pedestrianisation of the City centre was! After a few frantic phonecalls to Clemmy (who was unfortunately absent due to illness) and helpful locals we got to the venue around 7:20pm. We were greeted by Big Figure Promotions and all round top guy Steve Harland. Inside this is one cool venue and after a great soundcheck we got the beers in and sat back for the first band to start. After a last minute cancellation, it was Scotty, one half of Poetical Political duo PIPE RIOT who kicked things off. He warmed the growing crowd up well with his John Cooper Clarke style solo spot covering topics from Breast feeding, Margaret Thatcher and the joys of smoking weed! Next up and a last minute surprise for the fans, GOLDBLADE main man John Robb played a short 5 song set with his side project THE MEMBRANES much to the joy of the crowd!

With the place buzzing and a few meets and pics with LoGOz friends and fans it was our turn to rock! And rock indeed we did! A great sound and a fantastically receptive crowd, folk shouting and singing the songs back at us, this turned out to be one of the most enjoyable gigs we've done so far, for me anyway :) A truly memorable hectic half hour! With the tones of set closer Mexicola and rapturous applause still ringing in our ears we had to pretty much dash straight off, as we had The Roxbury in Blyth still to play! Big thanks to Steve Harland for putting us on and to GOLDBLADE for the use of their Guitar Cab. Cheers :)

So onto Blyth and without Paul breaking any speed laws we rolled up at The Roxbury just before midnight. As we made our way upstairs to the Live room The MIDDENS were still in full flow. With their mix of originals and classic mod rock covers the illegitimate Sons of Paul Weller had their crew bouncing! Jimmy Cooper would be proud :) After a quick changeover with no soundcheck and full of punk rock belief still from Stockton we ripped into Long Time Dead. The hardcore Blyth gang sang drank and danced the night away and we signed off a top night with a classic cover of Pretty Vacant by the SEX PISTOLS! Sadly we missed opening band ALL OUT ATTACK who lived up to their name and I was told they blasted out a great set! Thanks to Vince Race and Soundman Andy at The Roxbury. It was the early hours as we made our way back to Ashington. Two gigs in one night yet again completed with aplomb :) Also special thanks to Mizzi Bee.

Sunday evening saw us back as almost resident band at The Doll at The Black Bull in Gateshead. This was a fundraising event for the Hunt Sabs Association. We were third band in a seriously aggressive punk line up. Yet we still delivered our 3rd mint set of the weekend and a great crowd lapped it up! After the gig we sat down as a band with Manager Clemmy and decided it was Carl’s last gig with LoGOz. This wasn’t easy for any of us, but Carl had made up his mind a few weeks ago that his time had come to an end with the band and he felt he could no longer commit 100% to the cause. There are no hard feelings from anyone and Carl will continue to support the band in everything we do in the future. We would like to thank him for all the gigs, recordings, rehearsals, laughs and drinks we have shared over the last 27 months :)

As the song goes...it’s just another Manic Monday...indeed! That means its AcoustiCalendar time again and up to Song #9 already!! This week’s new track is THE DEATH OF THE 7" SiNGLE. Pretty self-explanatory this kiddie! As a fan, and a lot of you of a certain age are out there too, can remember the halcyon days of the 7" Single. The time when you would rush to your local Record Shop to buy your latest favourite bands Single you had just heard on Top of The Pops. And being amazed at the sleeve which were often works of Art themselves! Or listening to the Chart rundown on a Sunday night and taping your favourite songs! You may think l'm just a nostalgic knacker, but the song is just a celebration and sadness of a much loved and missed phenomenon...after all you can’t sign a download :)  www.logozworld.com/52

Finally, tomorrow Tuesday night, February March 3rd, l will be Live on Koast Radio on Nick Newcombe's Kick Out the Jams Show from 8-10pm. I will be chatting, laughing and playing some AcoustiCalendar Tracks Live in the Studio. Listen in at www.koastradio.co.uk
