LoGOz - Trillians 999 Review 10/03/16

Thursday March 10th saw LoGOz back at Trillians in Newcastle to support UK Punk legends 999. Upon the tradesman's entrance to load our gear in we were greeted by 999 six stringer Guy Days who politely asked us if he could borrow some guitar Amp equipment as they had unfortunately had a bit of a last minute technical problem! No worries. Once the boys had finished their soundcheck we jumped onstage and got our groove on for a quick warm up as the venue was starting to fill up nicely. As pre gig drinks were quaffed and we chatted amongst the crowd, before we knew it, it was 8:30pm stage time! Without introduction we ripped straight into LONG TIME DEAD! The sound was loud and tight and it felt good man! The lights above were so powerfully blinding as I was singing it was cancelling out my vision, but that didn't matter, we were
having a blast! We tore through a catchy punchy 35 minute set much to the pleasure of the Newcastle crowd. Again we threw in a cover of PRETTY VACANT and took folk back to their anarchic hey days, with our own modern twist! We finished our set with a frantic warp speed MEXICOLA which went down a storm! It all seemed to go quick but yet again we did ourselves proud and the reception from the busy
Thursday night crowd couldn't have been better!

So onto headliners 999. I hadn't seen these guys in 10 years
since I supported them in my old band JUNKSTER. So this I was looking forward to! As main man Nick Cash said from the stage, they formed the band in 1976 and the press back then said they wouldn't last a year, yet here they are 40 years later! You can't help but admire them for that. Not only in attitude have they got it right but onstage too. Like many things in life, bands like this just get better with age. Helped along by the driving Lurkers rhythm section of Arturo Bassick and Pablo on drums, they were on top form. These lads have played on every punk stage from Dundee to Düsseldorf and know their audience. As they belted out their classics 'Emergency' and 'Homicide' people down the front singing every word back to them it was almost 1978 all over again! The lads also gave LoGOz a few good shout outs from the stage which was a good touch, so cheers for that! I've said it before and I'll said it again "Old Punks never Die"!

To round things off it was another brilliant night for the band and so cool to see lots of familiar faces, old and new, contributing to a great gig for us. Big thanks to everyone who came down.

The Three Tuns - Gateshead - Solo Acoustic Gig 08/03/16

So on a cold March Tuesday evening I was back at the The Three Tuns in Gateshead for the first time since October 2014!! That night was with LoGOz on a memorable gig supporting US pop punksters The Dollyrots. But tonight it was my first solo acoustic outing at this splendid live music establishment, as part of Insangel Promotions Introducing night. The LoGOz bandwagon was now in full solo mode this evening with myself, the trustee Hellcat geetar, Clemmy and Jill Bee making the trip over the fog of the Tyne. With the 4 acts being 2 bands and 2 acoustic performers I was more than happy to be given second slot on the night. But alas the first man didn't bother his arse to show up for some reason, so therefore that meant me opening proceedings. Not a problem! After a swift successful soundcheck earlier I was slightly a taken back when I kicked into set opener THE BALLAD OF THE DISENCHANTED and the sound was noticeably somewhat different! I jokingly challenged this and was told from the stage that the sound was exactly how it had been earlier haha! Oh well..on with the show! It was great to be playing another solo gig on a good stage albeit in front of a small but receptive audience! My confidence was growing by every song as the phone cameras flashed, and even a slight plectrum drop during KEEP YA TIMBER IN & YA POWDER DRY couldn't stop the flow! I finished my 30 minute stint with OLD PUNKS NEVER DIE complete with my 12:OTHERS project crescendo of AUF WEIDERSEHEN LADS! All in all another successful solo spot under my belt and thanks to Phil Hughes from Insangel for putting me on.

As we grabbed our next drinks from  the bar it was the turn of TEMPLE AVENUE to strut their stuff. After having a good crack with the lads who were very complimentary of my set, we were looking forward to checking them out for the first time! We weren't disappointed, as the power trio blasted out a solid melodic  hook laden half hour of their own original brand of alternative rock! At times putting me in mind of the Foo Fighters, which can only be a good thing! With a pounding rhythm section of the impressively bearded Martin on Bass and Dom on drums, leaving the space for singer guitarist Craig's soaring melodies to shine through. All this despite the frontman's unfortunate electric shocks from the mic! Don't worry mate I've been there before, many a time..and always in Gateshead too.. Strange! Nevermind a great set from a top bunch of lads. Check their website out here www.templeavenue.co.uk

Last up was a band called GRIP. Never heard of them before so wasn't quite sure what to expect. Always expect the unexpected they say! But surely if you expect the unexpected then it ceases to be unexpected..right???!!! Anyway to my sheer unexpectedness they were a straight up 100% cover band. It added variety to the night I suppose. To be fair they were pretty good and it all sounded right as they breezed through classics such as ANOTHER GIRL, ANOTHER PLANET, EVER FALLEN IN LOVE, TOWN CALLED MALICE and MY GENERATION.

As we said our farewells and headed out of Gateshead, again it was job well done with a sense of personal pride of another solo gig in the locker! Looking back this time last year I was yet to even play a solo show so it's a timely reminder how far I've come in just under a year! Excuse my unintentional trumpet blowing but those close to me know how hard and how long it has taken me to get here haha! Thanks to everyone at The Three Tuns, Phil Insangel, Karina, Temple Avenue, Grip and of course Clemmy and Jill.

Just a quick reminder again that on Thursday March 10th LoGOz will be supporting UK Punk legends 999 at Trillians Rock Bar in Newcastle. Doors open 8pm and it's £5 Entry. Look forward to seeing some familiar faces down there!

LoGOz - Redcar & Morecambe reviews & upcoming Gigs!!!

Thursday March 3rd saw LoGOz hitting the gig trail again and road tripping our arses to Redcar for the very first time! The place being the newly opened music venue The Deck. As we approached the sea front situated establishment we were noticing the lack of people activity in and around ghost town Redcar on this bitterly cold Thursday night! Anyway after finding the place and a meet and greet with promoter Benzo and sidekick DJ Stevie we were already preparing for sound check! After a slight scare due to lack of drum stands which was swiftly resolved, we were soon bashing the shit out of our instruments to a rousing NO WIN SITUATION warm up! Sorted. So we then hit the bar to chat with vinyl enthusiast Stevie and wait for stage time! As the clock struck 10:45 late we strapped on our guitars and sticks and ripped into LONG TIME DEAD. It was great to be back in the rock n roll saddle and we were tighter than ever! As this was only our second gig of 2016  by the end of the set it was job well done by our own high standards, but we couldn't help be a little disappointed at the sheer lack of crowd! As the tumbleweed settled and we chewed the fat with Benzo and Stevie, we knew this place has potential to do well with the right promotion and timing etc. From the band point of view it was a successful performance cos we played so well after what had previously been a difficult few weeks for the band, with a few personal problems due to unforeseen circumstances etc. So it was great to put that behind us and get back to doing what we do best :) Even roadworks and diversions on the A19 on the way back to Northumberland didn't dampen our spirits as we looked ahead to ur second road trip in 3 days on Saturday! No sleep til Morecambe!!!

So as Saturday arrived we headed out of Ashington around 2:30pm for the 2 hour 35 min drive to Morecambe for our slot at the Punk Not Profit event. The sea side resort of course helped popularised by a certain comedian Eric Bartholomew changing his stage name to his original birthplace.
Pic: P Spicer
The journey flew by, thanks to no problems traffic wise and before we knew it the ever unreliable sat nav had taken us past the statue of their favourite Son and to the wrong venue!! After a quick phone call to LoGOz HQ we arrived safely at the correct place, The Bath Hotel. Judging by the Mohawks and tartarn attire being sported by the lads and lasses in the street outside, we were in good company! As we entered the venue we were pointed in the direction of organiser Graham McCrae, who informed us they are running a little behind schedule so our slot had been pushed back til around 7pm. Suits us mate. Champion. Just enough time to head back to the sea front and get a quick band snap with Eric! Braving the bitter freezing seaside breeze we were more than happy snappers! Bring me sunshine indeed!

After loading the gear inside we watched the band on before us! I didn't catch their name but l remember more about their appearance than their songs! Old school in yer face punk, a drummer with a tattooed face, a Dennis the menace jumper wearing bearded guitarist with a rather fetching Hells Angel hat helmet and a guitarist with 2 blonde Mohawks on each side of his head! Oh and a Jo Brand-a-like vocalist who really went for it! This kinda fired us up cos come stage time we were like caged animals! There was a noisy rowdy bustling busy crowd there for the taking and we weren't gonna disappoint! As we blasted through our set with sonic driven ferocity, the crowd po-go'd, punched the air, cheered and tried to sing along best they could! We went down a storm, in particular HELLO LONELY getting a rapturous reception! We even threw in Sex Pistols PRETTY VACANT for good measure, much to the crowds delight! One rather refreshed old punk amused as he was bemused to our original brand of Punk rock n rolla even grabbed wor Paul on the nose at one point, for reasons best known to himself haha! It was all in playful good nature of course. As the final strains of MEXICOLA were ringing out, it was all over too quickly! But this had been again one of my favourite ever LoGOz gigs to date! I'm sure Carlos and Paul agree. The reception and reaction to our set was just amazing and the feedback from everyone we spoke to afterwards was tremendously positive! The people of Morecambe were certainly now Wise to LoGOZ for sure :) We hung around sharing drinks, flyers, and contacts with new found friends and fans. As we said our goodbyes we thanked Graham for putting the band on and wished him every success in the future and a return to Morecambe again is definitely on the cards. Top geezer :)

As we drove out of Town with the moonlight shining on Eric's lit up statue we were more than satisfied with our evenings work. Perfect. Not quite. More roadworks and diversions meant an unexpected late night trek through the Yorkshire dales for good measure! But this still couldn't spoil the fun for the LoGOz bandwagon as we clicked up more valuable mileage and experience with another cracking gig! Thanks again to Graham McCrae and everyone at The Bath Hotel, and the enthusiastic fantastic people of Morecambe..oh and not forgetting Eric and Ernie :)

So onto this week folks! First of all this Tuesday night March 8th I'm playing a solo acoustic set at The Three Tuns in Gateshead. This is part of an Insangel Introducing night. Doors at 8pm and it's FREE Entry. Then on Thursday March 10th LoGOz  return to Trillians in Newcastle  to support Uk punk legends 999. This event is £5 Entry so come on down and make a noise with the boys! There's no such thing as a school night :)

Solo gig - The Tavern Blyth 21/02/16

Sunday evening saw me back in the solo swing of things with my first acoustic gig of 2016. This came in the familiar haunting that is The Tavern in Blyth. Having played here a few times already in the past with LoGOz and solo it was cool to ease myself back into a comfortable zone! But never one to be complacent when it comes to performing I had already planned to mix the set list up a bit tonight by playing some of my AcoustiCalendar tracks for the very first time! After a swift soundcheck and round of drinks, the clock struck 6:45pm and it was time to do the business. A healthy early evening sabbatical crowd had gathered of familiar bodies from the LoGOz crew and more, which was most pleasing! I kicked off with 'The Ballad of the Disenchanted' and the sound was spot on too, as I was also introducing my spanking new Ox blood Marshall AS50 Amp, and singing through my new chrome vintage retro mic to boot! Boys and their toys eh? Eeh l divent kna! The reaction from the crowd was warm and very receptive so that only added to my confidence. The songs making their live debut tonight were 'The Last Generation' 'Skool Daze' and the solo premier of 'Keep ya Timber in and ya Powder Dry'! They all went down a storm which was most satisfying! Big thanks to everyone who came down to support this gig and to Vince Race for putting this event on and making The Tavern a cool local venue to play! Cheers also to Rothbury rockers Nellys Moss for their set too. Top lads.

Also just to let you all know of another solo gig just added - this Wednesday February 24th at Filthy McNastys in Newcastle for Insangel Promotions. Be great to see ya there!

Radio Northumberland return / Gigs

Monday February 15th saw me return for a solo slot on the New Wave with Newman Show on Radio Northumberland. After listening to last weeks show and hearing Keith blast my new 12:OTHERS cover track 'Auf Weidersehen Lads' to his unsuspecting listenership I felt it'd be a good time to get my arse back down to the studio for a crack and play! Keith also played the track to Auf Weidersehen Pet/The Likely Lads creators Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais in a pre-recorded interview with the chaps as they joshed in true comic fashion "You'll be hearing from our lawyers"! Great stuff man!

So as myself, Clemmy and Jill Bee hit the Radio HQ not long before the 8pm showtime we were greeted warmly by Mr Newman and trustee sidekick Punky Paul. As proceedings kicked off we all chatted in between  Keith's post Valentine's themed punk classics, including 'Love Song' by The Damned and 'Ever Fallen in Love' by Buzzcocks! Then it was my time live on air with a brief chat before I launched into an acoustic version of the afore mentioned 'Auf Lads' which went down great in the studio, as my niggling sore throat was kept at bay with Halls Soothers and council pop! Keith also gave my next '12:OTHERS' track #2 an exclusive airing! This being my 'Ant Mash Up' which is my tribute to the legend that is Adam and the Ants! If you missed this, stay tuned for the official release on February 29th from www.logozworld.com/12-others

I finished my radio appearance by playing one of my favourite AcoustiCalendar tracks from last year 'It's a Way of Life'. Inspired by the excellent punk film 'Good Vibrations' which was recommended to me by Mr Newman, so it was a fitting tribute I thought. As we said our goodbyes there was still time to grab a few cool photos. All in all a successful evening and big thanks to everyone who tuned in and of course to Keith, Paul and everyone at Radio Northumberland.

Speaking of radio, I'm pleased to tell you I have a brand new edition of the PSYCHO RADIO Show coming up tonight on www.radionorthumberland.com at 10pm. Tune in for new tracks by CJ and Ginger Wildheart. Classics from David Bowie and Motörhead. New acts to the show also include The Soap Girls and Local punksters Loaded 44, plus loads more!!! You can tweet me your requests @PeeshNE63

Just to finish off, I'm playing a solo acoustic gig this Sunday February 21st at The Tavern in Blyth with Nellys Moss. This kicks off at 6pm and is FREE entry so come down and finish your weekend off in style! Lots more LoGOz and solo gigs/events being finalised as we speak so stay tuned for upcoming blogs!!!

In the meantime don't forget you can still download my '12:OTHERS' Track #1 'Auf Weidersehen Lads' for FREE from www.logozworld.com/12-others

'12:OTHERS' New Solo project for 2016

Well, after toying with the idea for most of January whether or not to fill the void left by AcoustiCalendar with a new solo project, I've eventually gone and done it! So lads and lasses I now present to you '12:OTHERS'. This will see me recording 12 songs by some of my all time favourite artists/bands/songs etc and will be released for FREE
download on the last day of every month in 2016. So my first offering for January is a punk rock mash up of 'That's Living Alright' from Auf Wiedersehen Pet and the theme from Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads. Two great songs taken from two of my most favourite TV Shows of all time. Both programs featuring the brilliant writing talents of Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais. This song will be to download for a full month from www.logozworld.com/12-others until February 29th when the next cover is upoaded. Big thanks to Clemmy and Jill Bee for making this project go Live last night and ensuring a frantic exciting end to the first month of the year!

Also if you missed my live LoGOz interview last week on American punk rock radio station Whatever 68 with Lisa PunkrPrincess, you can catch up with the show here https://m.mixcloud.com/PunkrPrincess68/

That's all for now folks!

Thanks for reading.
