LoGOz - Hoppings / Northumberland Arms / Mill Studios / 21st & 22 June 2014 Review

June 21st and the longest day in the calendar year, and just as well for LoGOz as we had 2 gigs to cram into one evening! Big thanks to british summer time :) As we headed into the chaos that is parking at the Town Moor Newcastle site, we were told there was no parking permit passes left for the band! After a slight haggle with security we weaved our way through the fayre goers, cars, rides etc to find the spanking Insangel stage around 5pm just as the Saloon Bar opposite us was closing! Great timing! Nevermind, we had an hour before we hit the stage so plenty of time for a good soundcheck.
Everything was running smoothly as we went onstage bang on 6pm. The sound was great for an outdoor gig as we tore through a frantic 45 minute set which was also being recorded Live. Looking forward to hearing the results! It was kind of a strange one for attendance because the stage was so close to the fayre activities you get a lot of passing trade of non music fans just popping along out of curiosity to see what the racket is! It was hard to tell if some of the screams were for us or from someone soiling themselves on the big wheel! But all in all we played well and had a great time and still had another gig to play that night. One down one to go!
So we headed into the heart of Newcastle City Centre to make our way to The Northumberland Arms on Northumberland Street. A tricky load in bay saw us searching almost underground with other delivery wagons! Just when we thought we were lost we were greeted by our trustee promoter for the evening who was sporting a blue crushed velvet jacket Showaddywaddy would be proud of. Nice.
A quick jaunt into Town for a quick bite to eat next. We plumped for a table for 3 at Macdonalds Restaurant against our better judgement. As we got back to the Northumberland Arms we had missed the first band Black Bloc. Sorry guys! But were in time for the fantastically quirky Pipe Riot. Don't be fooled by the raucous nature of their name! They are a 2 piece band, one guy posing as a man of the cloth playing the Northumbrian Pipes while a top hatted lead singer spouts hilarious and poignant poetry over the sweeping pipes. Beautiful yet mental. Original and thought provoking. Loved it. They had to shoot off straight after the gig to play a Goose Fayre!!! Say no more :)
Time for LoGOz second gig of the day. After a few teething sound problems we were ready to go!! The venue was now starting to fill up much to our joy, and the heavily punk influenced gathering lapped it up and we went down a storm! With more merchandise sold and signed it couldn't have went better. Even the offer of a wedding gig just added to the craziness  of a hectic but successful day/night.
Also have to mention last band HEXED whose full on brutal alternative punk was right up our street and look forward to hooking up with those guys again in the near future. Thanks to everyone who came to support us. You know who you are :)
So onto Sunday morning and a trip to Mill Studios in Alnwick. Maybe 2 gigs and celebratory drinks the day/night before the studio isn't the ideal preparation, but its punk rock n roll right?
The plan was to record 4 drum tracks and as many guitar tracks as possible today! Much to our joy everything went to plan with Carlos on top form rattling the drum tracks off in good time. Then Paul and me laid down our guitar tracks with guidance and humour supplied by the ever reliable Mr Ally Lee. We finished the day with the all drums and all guitars laid down for the 4 tracks, we were more than happy. Now we just need to book a few sessions to nail the vocals. These recordings will go alongside Hello Lonely & Long Time Dead to make a brand new as yet untitled 6 track mini album. We are looking at a proper release and distribution for this so stay tuned for more news coming soon!!!
Cheers for reading peoples :)
