Saturday afternoon had a Spinal Tap-esque start to our Mighty Dub Fest acoustic experience as we were given wrong directions by the staff at Druridge Bay Country Park! So we found ourselves wandering round the site in the lush afternoon sun, mistakenly gatecrashing festival goers barbecues in the process! And, even more amusingly, stumbling across a horsebox with travellers asking if we were the strippers! So, with clothes intact and a few frantic phone calls from the worried promoter, we finally found the marquee stage for the bands, phew! A quick soundcheck followed with orders of no pints onstage and no swearing! Rock n Roll indeed!
Paul and myself played a 9 song set kicking off with Jubileezer and included an acoustic debut for Joie de Vivre. We really enjoyed it, as did those who attended. So hopefully next year a full band set later in the day would be even better for us!
So onto sunday for another acoustic performance, this time at Whitley Bay Proper Food & Drink Festival. We were due onstage at 4pm and we were cutting it fine as the heavy traffic meant we got to the stage for a quick soundcheck at 3.59pm! The crowd and atmosphere were warm and appreciative as we introduced ourselves! We had a good feeling about this one. Again, we acoustisized our way through a 9 song set much to the pleasure of our new food munching, beer guzzling friends! At one point it looked like Mrs Brady old lady and friend may have rushed the stage but it wasn't to be! Some of the most fun we've had at an acoustic gig yet. My cheeky plea from the stage for free food worked a treat as Paul and l were rewarded with a large sausage by Levi Roots. But our day performing wasn't over yet! With guitars still strapped on, we stood chatting with good friends and fans. Before we knew it we'd launched into an impromptu busking set! This brought both delight and bemusement to us all! Even a psuedo authority figure and a strange man pleading for the owner of a Honda Civic couldn't stop us now! I believe there is some pretty cool youtube video evidence out there to back this up with some angelic vocals from our biggest youngest fan as well as some tribal flamenco dancing by a well refreshed female Bez impersonator who got lost in the moment with us. Priceless. Check it out! No Win Situation
All in all a brilliant weekend of punk rock acoustica. Dont forget we still have copies of our limited edition 3 Track Live at Koast Radio Acoustic CD available!
Thanks to everyone who helped make this a great weekend. You know who you are!
